3D ANIMATION + VISUAL EFFECTS PROGRAM CONTENT

InFocus Film School’s 3D Animation and Visual Effects Program puts you on a fast-track towards an exciting career in the VFX and animation industry. Our team of industry experts will help you build a portfolio and create a demo reel designed to catch the attention of major Vancouver VFX studios.

Small class sizes help our industry-professional instructors get to know you on a personal level and work one-on-one to develop your style, ethics, and goals. With their guidance, you will develop an eclectic demo reel that spans multiple fields, opening a universe of opportunity in the hottest city for visual effects and 3D animation.

CREDENTIAL

12-month diploma in 3D Animation and Visual Effects

SPECIALIZATIONS

In term 3, choose your field of specialization: Modeling, 3D Animation, or Visual Effects.

LEARN 3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE

As a 3D or VFX artist, software is your toolbox. Learn Maya, Nuke, ZBrush, Arnold and other industry-standard animation tools. These programs will allow you to build a demo reel to showcase your skills to studios. Our projects are shaped to create the most stunning portfolio possible, and advanced industry mentorship will allow you to build a reel designed specifically to catch the attention of employers in your field of specialization.

CAREER PATHS

Immediate employment opportunities for graduates may include Compositor, VFX Animator, Render Wrangler, 3D Modeler, 3D Animator, Character Modeler, Environment Modeler, Texture Artist, and a host of other entry-level positions.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

To be accepted into the Film Production Program, students must:

  • Meet the terms of InFocus Film School’s English Proficiency Policy
  • If under the age of 19, submit proof of successful completion of grade 12 (or equivalent)

CHRIS RYAN

Chris is a CG Supervisor and senior technical director with over 25 years of experience in the film, television, and games industry.

Credits Include: Black Panther, Snowpiercer, Watchmen, Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men, The Interview, and more.

DARVIN MANWAH

Darvin is the Compositing Supervisor at Side Street Post and a VFX producer. Over his 10 year career he has worked on over 80 Films and TV series.

Credits Include: Spectral, Once Upon A Time, Legion, The 100, Arrow, and many more.

You’ll be taught by some of the most accomplished animators and visual effects artists Vancouver has to offer. Our mentors are actively working in the industry and have credits that range from big-budget blockbusters such as Harry Potter and The Avengers to TV Series like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

TERM 1

This term introduces you to the fundamentals. You get 3D animation courses and in an intro to VFX to see the broad spectrum and endless possibilities contained within the world of CGI. Acquiring knowledge in design as well as storytelling, you will complete a series of 3D based projects using techniques and workflows that are currently used in the industry, preparing you for advancement in Term 2.

TERM 2

After receiving basic training in 3D Animation and Visual Effects, you will deepen your knowledge by taking on bigger projects, learning advanced concepts, and choosing a key focus of either 3D animation, 3D modeling, or VFX compositing. You will also begin to develop your demo reel, implementing ideas and concepts that will guide you towards your ideal industry career path.

TERM 3

This final stretch will allow you to hyperfocus on the production of your demo reel. You have learned the basics, advanced your knowledge, and covered a multitude of different techniques, programs, and cinematic styles to help build the perfect reel to take into the workforce. As always, our industry professional instructors will be there to lead you every step of the way.

EDUCATION PATHWAY

We have partnered with Langara College to offer an educational pathway program for graduates of InFocus’ 3D Animation + Visual Effects Program. This agreement allows InFocus graduates to directly enter the second year of studies at Langara’s Advanced Visual Effects Program and opens up the option of Post Graduate Work Permits for international students.

    PORTFOLIOS

    Portfolios are not required, however, submitting one will improve your chances of acceptance. Portfolios may include a video submission up to 2-minutes in length, and/or up to 10 photos or images. Portfolios do not have to be directly VFX related.

    Portfolios are used to evaluate the applicant’s photographic, cinematographic, and/or design strength and their passion for visual media. No specific artistic or technical skills are required, however, any an applicant does possess is an asset.
