GRAPHIC + DIGITAL DESIGN INSTRUCTORS

LEILA SINGLETON

GRAPHIC DESIGN DEPARTMENT HEAD

Leila Singleton is a freelance art / creative director and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

She began her two-decade career in Colorado as an ad agency art director, working with the Colorado Tourism Office, Wells Fargo, Wyoming Department of Health, and Wyoming Office of Tourism. After moving to San Francisco she built a DMO’s in-house design division, then went solo, working with clients at the University of California, Berkeley; Stern Grove Festival Association; and Delve Fonts, among others.

Leila’s designs appear in over three dozen publications and have amassed more than 60 honors from organizations such as Creative Quarterly, GD USA Magazine, Graphis, Hiiibrand, and more.

A seasoned judge with more than a dozen advertising and design competitions under her belt, she’s also reviewed nearly 200 student portfolios at events throughout North America. Art education is a passion for Leila: before joining InFocus, she taught drawing, tutored, and volunteered as a career day presenter, discussion panelist, and lecturer.

KARAM HANNA

INSTRUCTOR

Karam Hanna is a marketer, entrepreneur, and educator. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Lebanon’s University of Balamand, and has stayed current with the fast-paced field of digital marketing through certifications from Hubspot Academy and Google.

Over the past 15 years, Karam has worked for start-ups, international businesses, and in digital projects management across multiple industries and categories. He’s worked for companies such as American Express Global Business Travel, and has also founded companies of his own, among them digital marketing agency Onlinetraffico. Whether working for himself or others, Karam always develops solutions, manages teams, and grows revenues with an approach that balances both data and creativity.

Karam has taught marketing and business at schools across Canada. He brings his real-world experience into the classroom so that students learn more than just theory, and his focus transcends mastering programs and platforms: he teaches students to connect with their target audiences, and to consider both marketing and creative perspectives. Karam has a passion for inspiring multicultural learners, and encouraging them to persevere through their scholastic journeys.

PAULINE LAI

She has worked with restaurants, real estate projects, business professionals, and startups to create user-centred designs that focus on simplicity and elegance through the fusion of content strategy and creative inspiration.

Pauline also has nearly a decade of experience as a teacher, and volunteers her time as a mentor: she’s lent her expertise to Ladies Learning Code, DesignX Vancouver, and ADPList, the former of which is an invitation-only, global community of best-in-the-industry mentors.

Active in the design community, Pauline was on the founding committee of Creative Mornings Vancouver and is a long-term executive for Design Professionals of Canada, who honored her with their inaugural Community by Design Award in 2020.
