SKILLS TAUGHT

COMPOSITING

Compositing is the combining of visual elements into a single image. From major films to car commercials, nearly all professional modern video contains composited elements.

THE FOUNDRY: NUKE

Nuke is a node-based digital compositing application developed by The Foundry, and used for film and television post-production. It is the industry standard compositing software.

ROTOSCOPY

Integral to compositing, rotoscopy is a technique where animators trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action.

ROTO PAINT

Another key to compositing, this tool is used to isolate objects within a clip and make the changes your production needs.

KEYING

Green screens (and blue screens) are used to insert background elements into a live-action shot. Keying is the method of removing and replacing the solid colour with other scenes.

SKILLS TAUGHT

MATCH MOVE

Learn how to digitally track camera movements to insert digital objects into a scene with proper size, scale and motion or stabilize camera shots.

SET EXTENSION

Elevate a simple shot by setting it anywhere your production needs. Add creative backgrounds, landscapes, and environments from alien worlds to another city’s skyline.

OBJECT REMOVAL

To keep the magic of special effects magic, removing unwanted objects from the final image, such as the wires that allow actors or stunt performers to fly through the air, is an often crucial duty in compositing.

COLOUR CORRECTION

Learn to grade and correct colour, enhancing the image in order to adjust the mood, unify the aesthetics, and make it ready for the big screen.

CAREER PREP

Network with studios and recruiters. Learn how to present yourself to employers. Most importantly, create a stunning demo reel to showcase your skills

ROTOPAINT/ROTOSCOPY

Remove logos and other objects within a scene and replace them according to the director’s vision.

MUZZLE FLASH

Isolate and integrate muzzle flashes from a firearm into a scene, ensuring they blend seamlessly with the environment.

SCREEN BURN-IN

Learn how to integrate screen burn-ins by compositing displays and graphics onto screens within live-action footage, ensuring proper perspective and reflections for realistic screen replacements.

DIGITAL MAKEUP

Alter or enhance the appearance of actors using digital tools, such as smoothing skin, adding makeup effects, or even changing facial features.

BODY PAINTOUT

Remove unwanted body parts from a scene, often involving meticulous frame-by-frame editing.
