  • 3D COMPOSITING

Compositing is the combining of visual elements into a single image. From major films to car commercials, nearly all professional modern video contains composited elements.

  • NUKE

Nuke is a node-based digital compositing application developed by The Foundry, and used for film and television post-production. It is the industry standard compositing software.

  • ROTOSCOPY

Integral to compositing, rotoscopy is a technique where animators trace over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to produce realistic action.

  • ROTO PAINT

Another key to compositing, this tool is used to isolate objects within a clip and make the changes your production needs.

  • MATCH MOVING

Learn how to digitally track camera movements to insert digital objects into a scene with proper size, scale and motion or stabilize camera shots.

  • GREEN SCREEN KEYING

Green screens (or blue screens) are used to insert background elements into a live-action shot. Keying is the method of removing and replacing the solid colour with other scenes.

  • OBJECT REMOVAL

To keep the magic of special effects magic, removing unwanted objects from the final image, such as the wires that allow actors or stunt performers to fly through the air, is an often crucial duty in compositing.

  • SET EXTENSION

Elevate a simple shot by setting it anywhere your production needs. Add creative backgrounds, landscapes, and environments from alien worlds to another city’s skyline.

  • COLOUR CORRECTION

Learn to grade and correct colour, enhancing the image in order to adjust the mood, unify the aesthetics, and make it ready for the big screen.

The course ran for only a few months, and I was surprised and impressed by how much material was fit into that time! As fast paced as it was, it was never too overwhelming and I quickly gained confidence in my ability to use the tools and techniques I was taught. The success of this course was due to the fantastic teachers and industry mentors brought in to share their specific areas of insight and walk the students through each lesson step by step.

I came in with literally zero experience, and a month after graduation I got a job as a compositor in VFX studio here in Vancouver. The best thing about InFocus is that it's small and humble, so everyone up to the director of the school are very approachable and ready to help. They are really there to make sure you succeed, it's great. Also, I got plenty of industry connections and insights through mentors that teach evening classes.

Having no experience, I decided to take the program at InFocus Film School. I have learned so much, and was given the right advice for my portfolio from industry professionals!

Shortly after graduation I was offered a position at Mainframe Studios. I want to thank the entire staff at InFocus for working their magic. I am still to this day very thankful and highly recommend it!

The instructors are clearly not about it for a salary, they truly care about you and your success. I thought many times that I could teach myself, but having a mentor to guide you really makes the difference. They teach you from the ground up. I felt I was well prepared when I got my first job. I am very fortunate to have gone to this school.
