    DESIGN AND CRITICAL THINKING

    Learn how to develop concepts, research, brainstorm, work through ideas, and use creative and critical thinking to develop design solutions across print and digital platforms. This course introduces you to the design process and the fundamental principles of design, composition, layout, typography and more.

    STRATEGIC DESIGN

    Develop an understanding of business strategy and learn how to implement research and analysis to strategically create campaigns specific to your client’s goals and branding needs. Plus, learn to demonstrate how your strategy supports the client’s overall business goals.

    WEB DESIGN

    Learn the basics of website design, including WordPress selection and content management and FTP live launch. Build dynamic social media campaigns and understand which social media platforms to use and why. A solid understanding of technical and empirical online practices will help you to make recommendations, perform basic hard-skill tasks, and collaborate with other professionals in these fields.

    UX + UI

    From apps to website navigation, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design shapes how we experience the world and are crucial and ubiquitous in the digital age. Learn how to visualize a user’s navigation and experience of a design with journey mapping. Practice using observation, storyboards, and wireframes to ensure optimal usability. Finally, develop consistently and easily navigable page layouts with the design skills and visual language you’ve acquired.

    ADOBE CC PROGRAMS

    Take control of Adobe’s most powerful and popular software, Photoshop. Master the powerful vector artwork program Illustrator. Learn how to use the industry’s standard publishing and typesetting software, InDesign. Project-based exercises reinforce design principles as you bring your ideas to life using the Adobe Creative Cloud to create layouts, artwork, and designs that take advantage of each program.

    ADVERTISING AND MARKETING

    Advertising and marketing strategies are only as effective as the final design. Whether you create ads for billboards, newspapers, posters, or online platforms, your job as the designer is to make a product or service desirable to the general public. With the help of language and design principles, this course teaches the full process of creating an enticing marketing campaign and strategically targeting a defined audience.

      Term 2 builds on the foundation of previous courses, teaching advanced aspects of Adobe CC programs, website UX and UI design, and strategic marketing. You’ll learn about production pipelines for both digital and print media as you construct a portfolio project that showcases the employable skills you have learned.

    • WEEK 27-52

      PAID WORK EXPERIENCE

      Gain invaluable, real-life experience in a real workplace. This paid co-op will place you with a real employer, building your skills, network, and possibly leading to a permanent placement.
